That last bit was too funny!  Matthew is a stinker.  Smart, too.  He seems to know Hope better than she knows herself.  And here we thought Ginny had it bad for Harry!  Nice job.  This was quite a roller coaster ride what with Crackle injured and Hope worried sick about him.  Now, what is Hope plotting on for revenge?

Author's Response: Matthew's brain can work a lot faster than Hope's. He clued into the Apparition problems she'd have instantly and took advantage. She gets him back with some very effective teasing later on - wait and see ;)

Glad that you are feeling better.  As wonderful as this story is, your health is more important.

Another wonderful chapter.  It's nice to see that Harry's penchant for guilt will live on in Hope.  Poor girl, upset because she isn't in the hospital.  I never doubted that Herbert would live (angst in the beginning, fluff at the end), but you built the suspense nicely.  I love the interaction between Kingsley and Hope.  She was so lucky to be surrounded by so many people who loved her as a child.  It's also nice to see her and Kingsley as adults, though.  He obviously respects her, and he doesn't coddle her.  Quimby was also a lot of fun.  Poor Hope, EVERYBODY saw what was going on between her and Mathew.  Silly girl.  Well, at least she finally figured it out.  Mathew and Hope were quite wonderful in this chapter as well.  The race was great, very Slytherin.  Can't wait for these two to get some alone time together.

You are going to finish ND, right?

Author's Response: I am going to finish Nil, but it's going to be just chipping in a bit here and there. Once I get this done, I'm going back to 'Home' first, then I'm going to dabble back in original stuff for a while. Nil will get occasional updates and we'll eventually get to the end. The clues you got in this chapter are from right near the end of 'Nil', so there's quite a way to go before that.

Alone time coming up!

I'm so glad that you're finally healthy...I must say that knowing how sick you were made my frustration that there had been no updates so away...the only problem was, now I was checking back all the time to see if you'd updated because that would mean you were feeling better!

Anyhoos, on to the chapter.  It was definitely worth the wait, though I want to know exactly what's going on with Herbert.  I feel terrible for Hope...I'd probably be feeling the same way, though I would tell her the same if I was any of the others.

The ending was beyond adorable.  The fact that they had planned on seeing each other again, the anticipation of seeing each other again and their possible romantic night together is blown from their minds because of sleep and hunger.  I guess that shows the two can really control their raging passion ;)

I really admire Matthew's ability to keep Hope calm.  He's such a sweetheart.  But don't think I didn't notice the "thanks" in response to his "I love you, I'll always love you."  That's in league with Han Solo's "I know" response.  But, I guess I can attribute it to her extreme fatigue and anxiety over Herbert, but still...or maybe I just want her to open her dumb eyes and wrap her dumb brain around the fact that she loves him too :) maybe.

Author's Response: That "thanks" was very deliberate. She's not got there with consciously working out her feelings, but he's content to give her the space. She's always been a bit slow on the uptake ;)

Your work is always worth multiple readings, and this chapter is no exception. There are several reasons for rereading. For me, the first reading often simply evokes an enthusiastic "wow." I have to read it at least a second time to do a proper review. Even then there is the pleasure and danger of being swept up in the story again, then emerging at the end and realizing that again I didn't do at least a semblance of studying the chapter.

Yet again you've shown that an Auror's life is a gritty one. And you've shown so well how Hope is Harry's daughter. She feels guilty for not taking the curse herself! I like how you have characterized Shacklebolt and how he cares for the people under him.

Please do post the next chapter sooner rather than later. I want to see why it is your favourite chapter. Nice hotel room. Vacation. Mutual attraction. Hmmm. :-)

Author's Response: I'm very tempted to put the next chapter up next week, but I will give you a minor spoiler that not a sentence of the next chapter takes place in the hotel room ;)

Hope and Harry do have quite a few similarities, but some of Hope's hang-ups are distinctly different. Fantastic to hear you're still enjoying. Thanks for such lovely reviews :)

Aw.  Matthew ... Hope.  They're just so sweet together.  Even though most of that chapter was centred quite rightly on Hope's anxiety and misplaced guilt over Herbert, the way in which Matthew could get through to her made me all sappy.  Lovely!

Author's Response: Hey - nice to see you back again. They're definitely settling into this relationship business now, although oddly enough it's not significantly different in this chapter to how it would have been if they'd been 'just good friends' ;)

:D:D:D:D Nail biting chapter... I was so worried 'bout Herbert!!! I'm glad to see he'll live!!! And I loved that whole interaction between Hope and Matthew!!:D
Excellent work!:D
~Maria~

Author's Response: Thanks :D Glad you're relieved about Herbert. Just a few loose ends to tie up now!

It was well worth the wait, Imogen. Even though I knew Herbert would be out of danger by the end, I could help being on the edge of my seat like Hope was! Matthew was brilliant, as usual. The description of their near-death experience in first year makes me want to *really* read it in Nil Desperandum.

Quimby returned, yay! It's really nice when you read these chapters after reading ND. Seems almost the same to me, sans the breasts ;)

Author's Response: We'll get there in 'Nil' eventually, but probably not for a while - it's the end of the fic really, so there's quite a way to go before you'd see that.

It struck me when I was writing Quimby that he's really rather like Flint in some ways, but with less charm and arrogance. Wonder what Slytherin does to them to make them turn out this way?

Glad you're feeling better!  Although starting off a crunch time of year ill is going to make it that much worse, won't it?

I wanted to slap Quimby, but I will simply assume that he was behaving differently with Hope because he'd known her way back when.  Good grief, how unprofessional is it to be commenting on her underwear?

More hints about what's to come in ND.  I hope we do get to read that someday!  Matthew was sweet and supportive when Hope needed it, but he doesn't coddle her.  I loved his Apparition trick at the end.

I'm really looking forward to lots more Matthew in the next few chapters! I don't really care about even spacing, but I guess you'd want to wait a week or so at least, until reviews for this one die down.

Author's Response: Yeah - entirely unprofessional, but like you said he assumes he can get away with it because he's known her socially for so long. I don't think Hope'll be taking him up with his offer of a drink! somehow...

I'll be feeling better again once I shift this enormous sack of exam scripts that is currently breeding in my study. 800 essays to grade then I can get my head back round this story again. I'm itching to post the next chapter. I don't often write something I really like, but next chapter's definitely one of those odd occasions! Lots of yummysome Matthew, plus another outtake by Alphie.

Brilliant, as per usual! Here's hoping Herbert's all right!

I guess Yaxley never heard the old D&D maxim! That was definetly bigger than his head.

I hope Herbert is okay. And I'm dying to find out how Hope's other mission goes!

Author's Response: Yup - all dark wizards should play D&D before they try and take over the world ;)

Wow.  I loved that chapter!  I'm wondering just how injured Hope is and how freaked out our Matthew will be.  Oh, you saucy minx of an author!

Author's Response: Hope's injury really is very minor. Matthew wouldn't be too worried by it - not that she wants him to know... ;)

Hurray!  It's here at last!  Thanks for the Mother's Day present.  Keep them coming...

Author's Response: Thank you! And I've got to email you about the lovely comments you left on the front page as well. Posting is going to be patchy until July 26th, but then we'll get the story finished off nice and quickly. Nearly at the end now - 26 chapters plus epilogue.

I'm so excited that you managed to get the website up and running...and I know this will sound strange, but I'm relieved it took so long, because last week I did nothing but work on my two thesis papers and study for a final exam.  Saturday was graduation and today was Mother's Day, my dad's birthday and my close friends baby shower,...oy.  But now...I've got time to enjoy your story again :)

Unfortunately, this isn't my computer so I have to make this quick.  (mine is still locked away in my garage as my room was storage for the rest of the family...oy).  The chapter was great, even though there is no Matthew.  I liked how distracted she was, and the little details from her past BM, before Matthew.  The action moved fast and I really didn't see the whole illusion thing coming, so that was fun.  I'm interested in seeing what happened to Herbert, especially, and how Matthew will be involved in this.  I have a feeling that instead of working on her, Matthew will be working on Herbert...which is a perfect little extra thing.

Ugh, I think this review sucks...sorry it's so rushed!  Next time, I promise, it'll be better! 0:-)

Author's Response: Glad you enjoyed it. I've got the hospital sequence up now, so you'll have to see how right you were ;)

I saw this last night, but my review didn't post.  Lucky I saved it, although now I fear cut and paste will leave weird formatting issues.  If so, please forgive me.

That was wonderful, definitely worth the wait.  It is great seeing Hope working with the other Aurors, and being intimidated by them, although she would never admit it.  We know she is very powerful and smart, and so does she, but here she is worried about how she will do on the mission, about failing.  I hope she remembers this feeling when she is one of the old-timers, (so probably her next mission) and there are other young hopefuls in the field trying to prove themselves.

Poor Hope, she really has had bad luck with men, although she does seem to pick lousy partners.  (Not that Flint was necessarily lousy, but they never had a future).  I really wanted to see Hope show up Williams.  Oh well, I guess that's for another mission.

I'm thinking Herbert's going to be alright, if for no other reason than his death would put a damper on her later rendezvous with Matthew.  Has she had time to but that lingerie yet?  I'm eager to find out.

Author's Response: It did post - really it did. I even replied to it!! I'll be so glad when the site's not having PMS any more!

A very nice action chapter: The "nerves before the fight," the difficult, draining fight with devilish forces, the almost too sudden end, and of course we are left with the to-be-expected Imogene cliffhanger! :-) I experienced it as a quite gritty episode, showing how the life of an Auror is not glamourous, and is definitely hazardous at times, and is in no way idealzed.

Well done!

Author's Response: It's just a little cliffie- more like a bump in the road really.

I can safely say that Hope's life as an Auror is definitely not glamorous! This is one of the more unpredictable cases she's had to deal with though. Now all she really needs is to know Herbert's ok again, and to spend her week off trying to seduce Matthew every time he comes home from work ;)

Oh my goodness! Well done with the battle scene! I'm certainly going to have to read that one again to get all of the details--and I love that all of the other Aurors have personalities, as well...

...and now I'm just hoping that the next chapter has some snogging...hehehe...

Author's Response: LOL Anyone reading these reviews would think we all have one track minds... ok, so they'd be right ;)

I'm impressed I've managed to give anyone a personality in four or five lines! But work would be boring if everyone got along!
